Week 5 Homework Task 5 – Selina

How often do you lose your car keys, TV remote or cellphone?

If you’re anything like me,

all the time.

I sit down on the couch and realize,

aw man,

I do not have my phone.

So I immediately get up and search for it. Since my phone is usually always in my hand I never really know in which room of the house I left it. Other times I will look for it all over only to realize it is in my backpack or a coat pocket. The same goes for my car keys and the TV remote. Both seem to find a way of ending up in

small ,

hard to see places. Wouldn’t it be great if we could ask Alexa to tell us where we left our phone or car keys? Our phones are already equipped with locating technology and Alexa has the ability to decipher between different rooms in a house with the smart home technology.

If

there was a way to give Alexa

access to the tracking feature on our phone and install that same technology

into car keys or TV remotes, we would save ourselves the
annoying

task of looking for our keys on the days we cannot be late or searching all over the house for our phone only to realize we left it in the car. This new skill would allow us to say “Alexa, where are my keys?” and
bingo!,

Alexa would locate the keys and respond with something like “Your keys are in the kitchen,” or “Your phone is in the bathroom.”

On February 14 we found ourselves reading the horrible headline we know all too well: A man walked into an American school with a gun and took the lives of 17 kids and teachers. Many of us asked ourselves: What can be done to prevent another tragedy of this magnitude? Is the solution in the hands of lawmakers in Washington? Does the problem lie in the educational system? Or is the issue of mass shootings a public health one? Today we talk to the New York Time’s John Doe about what he thinks can be done to prevent mass shootings.

John Doe: The first thing we want listeners to understand is the amount of guns found in the United States.

Host: How many, roughly?

Doe:
One for every citizen

Host: Wow.

Doe: We have an obscene amount of guns in the United States yet we don’t regulate them as we should.

Host: What would you consider an efficient way to regulate them?

Doe: We need to impose a public health approach modeled after the automobile industry.

Host: But don’t gun owners say that cars kill just as many people as guns do yet we don’t try to get rid of them like we do guns?

Doe:
Yes

But we regulate them like crazy in order to reduce the amount of deaths by automobiles. Since 1921 we’ve reduced the death rate by

95 percent

Per 100 million miles driven.

In today’s day in age there are far more information the average person needs to know than ever before. With so much going on in someone’s day the goals we set out for oneself can go unmet. I would like to create a skill that would help out anybody and everybody make sure they meet those goals. Far too many people live an unhealthy lifestyle and depressed or anxiousyikes!.

I want to create a skill that will help you not only remind yourself daily of your goals but help you make those goals possible. Alexa would be synced to your alarm and the first thing you would hear is your goals you set for the week. For example, if your goal is to lose 10 pounds in a month then Alexa would be your personal trainer ooh la la!

Good morning, Carlos.

Here is today’s goals. Make sure to eat 2,500 calories throughout the day, drink a gallon by the end of the day, and be ready for your Biology final at 5 this evening.

Holy crap. I totally forgot I had my final today.

Alexa, is my final cumulative or only based on the second half of the semester.

Your biology final will consist of 50 multiple choice questions and three essay questions that are all derived from the last six weeks of class.

phew!Thank God, I will head to school early and catch up on the material I need to know.

Wait, I can’t forget my gallon of water.

What do you do after something so traumatic? How do you ease your way back into everyday normal life?

Students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida are now finding a way to make sense of what occurred almost a week ago. Last Wednesday a gunman entered the high school and began to unload his weapon. Students who managed to survive the shooting are finding ways to cope with the horrific event that also took the lives of two beloved faculty and staff. Survivors have now rallied in wake of this event to put the pressure on the Trump administration to do something about gun laws. Many other schools around the nation and in the Bay Area are coming together to advocate for change.

“I believe that we as the younger generation need to lead this force to bring stricter laws for owning a gun. We are the ones getting shot at and killed.”

In support with the Parkland students advocating for change, many San Jose State students also believe that it is up to the younger generation to really push for change. Current gun laws are outdated and need to be changed. In the last ten years the U.S. has had the top five deadliest shootings in its modern history.

Hi, I’m Warren, and I’m interviewing my guest, peace.
North Korea’s diplomat Kim Yo Jong recently made an appearance at the pyeongchang
Olympics. Her smile is a sneer and she sits above Mike Pence. Obviously insulting our global hegemony. Don’t you think?
No.. uh. I think that’s just how her face looks. We should be celebrating peaceful relations while North Korea is on the world stage. The fact that we weren’t offered any peace deal is an obvious snub. And we should be angry. Don’t you think? No. I’d disagree I’d say that the fact that, when interviewed, Kim yo Jong said she wouldn’t make political theatre out of an international event. While the opportunity for a deeper conversation on a peace agreement, Kim sat down near Mike Pence at the olympics with no real cost. The photo spoke to the ceasefire, and showed that we are not nations currently at war, or currently launching nukes at each other. Hmm. Well. Just to be safe let’s just conduct military drills on their borders and kill leaders without nuclear arms, that’ll make them stop arming themselves. Don’t you think? No I think that it’s really a matter of … ugh.
god damnit.
We’re done here.

With only a couple of days until the season opener, San Jose State University’s baseball team is still searching for a new head coach. Their previous coach stepped down from the position after being accused of holding illegal practices. In the meantime, assistant coach Brad Sanfilippo will be filling in as head coach until a permanent replacement is found.

Host: What are your thoughts on this coach?

Interviewee: Well, no offense to the team but you’d think that if illegal practices were being held…. the team would be a hell of a lot better!

Host: Talking about the team, how do you think they are going to perform now that they’re stuck in the middle of this mess?

Interviewee: Hopefully it will be a reversed effect and they fight until the finish because, let’s be honest, the odds are against them.

Host: Well their record is 2-2 after their series opener this past weekend. May the odds be in their favor this season.

Customer service as a barista is harder than the outside may imagine. People forget that baristas are people too. They have feelings and opinions and should be treated as an equal not as a coffee slave. One problem is that baristas face is when they respond to a customers demand. The customer always ask for the manager and get offended when the management responds with the same answer.

Host: What the hell?! Why is my drink not ready yet?

Interviewee: I’m sorry ma’am but I make the drinks as they come. What is your name?

Host: I have been standing here for 3 minutes! You guys take forever! I don’t know why I even came here!

Interviewee: I am sorry ma’am but I have 6 other people ahead of you. What is the name on the cup?

Host: You know what? Let me speak to your manager!

Interviewee: Yessenia! Speak to this customer, please.

Interviewee 2: Hi, yes.

Host: Hi, yes my drink is ready and I am late.

Interviewee 2: Oh, sorry about that but we go by the order in which customers order and there are other customers in front of you.

Host: Ugh!

Interviewee: Says in head, hahah told you so!!!
